Emergency Burst Pipe Repair in Leicester

The Emergency

Late evening call from a homeowner in Leicester. Water was coming through the bedroom ceiling. The customer had already turned off the mains stopcock but needed urgent help to locate and repair the burst pipe.

What We Found

Access to the loft revealed a burst section of copper pipe in the cold water run. The pipe had split along a joint, likely due to age and corrosion. Water was dripping through to the bedroom below.

What We Did

• Isolated the burst section: Confirmed the stopcock was fully closed and isolated the damaged section from both ends using pipe clamps.
• Removed the burst pipe: Cut out the damaged section of copper pipe carefully, preserving as much of the existing pipework as possible.
• Fitted new copper: Replaced the damaged section with new copper pipe and proper fittings, soldered to British Standard.
• Tested the system: Turned the water back on and checked all joints for leaks. The system held pressure perfectly.
• Checked for further damage: Inspected the loft and bedroom ceiling for signs of water damage.

The Result

Water restored, heating back on, and the customer could sleep easy. The repair was solid and the pipe will last for decades to come.
